DAY 2Wander, then Meet & Greet
After a decent night's rest, we set out to explore a bit on our own. We walked around our hotel's neighborhood and eventually found our way to the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain. After marveling at the sites and taking loads of photos, we stumbled upon a nice little cafe to have lunch at before heading back to the hotel to meet the rest of the tour group and our guide. |
DAY 2 ContinuedPantheon, some familiar sites, and Piazza Navona
Once we had been acquainted with the rest of our tour group members, we headed out on our first venture of the metro underground. We got off at the Pantheon, and walked to the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps again (guess we got a little ahead of ourselves earlier in the day!) and Piazza Navona. After spending some time exploring we had a fantastic group dinner at Ristorante Da Pancrazio located at Piazza del Biscione. |
DAY 3
Colosseum, Roman Forum, and inside the Pantheon
We got a bright and early start this morning to meet our wonderful local tour guide Marta at the Colosseum. I feel like I learned more about the history of Rome from 3 hours with her than I did my entire youth in history class! She led our group around the Colosseum and through the Roman Forum, painting a picture of what these magnificent ruins would have looked like hundreds of years ago. We then walked back to the Pantheon, this time to take a look around inside. Out of all the sights we saw and all the grand buildings we visited on this tour, the Colosseum struck me the most. Seeing something as massive and ancient as it is in person is indescribable, let alone learning about its tragic history while standing exactly where it took place. |
DAY 4
The Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Basilica
This was our last day in Rome, and probably the busiest day we had. When the tour says to wear comfortable walking shoes, they mean it! We toured the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basilica, and quite honestly just starred up in amazement and awe at the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Definitely an experience you do not want to miss if traveling to Rome. After an eventful afternoon, we piled onto the bus and headed north to Volterra. |
